ARCS World Heritage International Programme |
Building a strategic networkAlec Marr is leading, on behalf of ARCS, a small core group that has started to build a strategic network of ENGO’s, relevant national governments and legal and other technical experts aimed at improving the overall performance of the World Heritage Committee. However, there are critical gaps that must be filled both in terms of expertise and geographic reach. ARCS is applying for grants to increase strategic resourcing to help build the reach and effectiveness of the network. An important opportunity to build the network will be presented at WILD 10 where the current Chair of the World Heritage Protected Area Specialist group of IUCN, Cyril Kormos, and Alec Marr will host a workshop on the imperative to lift global performance on World Heritage Management. Around 1200 senior/leading nature conservationists from around the globe are expected to attend WILD 10 in Salamanca in October 2013. The conference provides an important opportunity to build awareness of the problems facing some of Earth’s most important wild places and to increase the number of people willing to join the network to help solve the problem. |
